Christmas morning. A hospital bed. No family nearby. This will be the reality for over 1,700 patients in our care this December. But together, we can change what that morning feels like.
As carols fill the air, our teams at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust are preparing for one of the most challenging yet meaningful times of the year. Winter brings joy for many, but for our NHS staff, it means greater pressure, increased demand, stretched resources, and the challenges that cold weather brings to our most vulnerable patients. For patients in our care, it can mean missing precious moments with family, watching Christmas morning unfold from a hospital bed instead of around the tree at home.
Imagine waking up on Christmas Day in hospital, far from the warmth of home, poorly, stressed and worried. Now imagine finding a gift waiting for you, a reminder that you’re thought of, that you matter, that Christmas has found you even here. This December, we want to:
Last year, our incredible supporters like you raised an extraordinary £72,000. Together, we brought smiles, comfort, and a touch of magic to our patients and staff when they needed it most.
Your donation of £25 could be the difference between a patient feeling forgotten and feeling cherished. It could be the warm meal that reminds a nurse, working their third Christmas in a row, that their sacrifice is seen and valued. No one chooses to spend Christmas in a hospital. But together, we can make sure that everyone who does feels the warmth, joy, and love of the season.
Thank you for caring. Thank you for giving. Thank you for making Christmas golden.
Carol reached out to the charity after receiving gifts during her stay as a patient at Wexham Park over Christmas.
Carol was rushed to Wexham Park after falling and breaking her leg. Carol spent several days at Wexham Park and was blown away by the care she received from the dedicated staff on the ward.
On Christmas Day, Carol was so touched by the Christmas presents the charity provided to all patients.
“Waking up on Christmas morning to a bundle of lovely presents was truly amazing. Being thought of in that way while so much was happening around the hospital was so touching. The gifts were beautiful, and I still use the Christmas mug I received daily for a cup of coffee.’
Carol kindly donated to the Golden Christmas Appeal last year to say thank you and to keep the amazing work the charity does at Christmas continuing — allowing patients and staff to receive the kind gestures she received, which made such a difference to her at such a challenging time.
Donate todayDuring this time of year, the hospital receives many generous Christmas gifts from the local community for our patients and staff. While we appreciate and are grateful for this outpouring of support, we encourage those who wish to support us to donate to our Golden Christmas Appeal instead.
Children’s Ward – Every year, we are lucky enough to receive many gifts for our children’s ward throughout the festive period, and we appreciate these fabulous donations. We would ask that all gifts for the children’s ward be delivered before Friday, 12 December, to give us time to sort and distribute them appropriately. Don’t forget the age group you’re donating to on the children’s ward: it’s anywhere from a few days old to 16 years old, and our teenagers are often forgotten. We ask that all presents be unwrapped or in gift bags so we can organise them into the correct age groups. We are also unable to accept second-hand donations at this time.
Elderly Patients – Often, our elderly patients spend time in the hospital over Christmas, and sadly, some do not have many visitors during the festive period. A small gift, such as a scarf and gloves, a toiletry gift set, a jigsaw, or even a blanket, is a lovely way to cheer up our patients. Again, we ask that presents be unwrapped so that we can ensure the gifts are suitable for each patient. A good way to present gifts to elderly patients is to wrap a shoebox and put the gifts inside. This means it is easy for our staff to review each gift and easier for our patients to open.
