Every day, people living with Parkinson’s disease navigate a complex and often unpredictable set of symptoms including fluctuating movement, tremors, stiffness and more. These changes can be hard to capture in short clinical appointments, making it difficult to tailor treatment effectively.
Thanks to generous donations to Frimley Health Charity, we’re proud to fund a new project that changes this. The Neurology team at Frimley Park Hospital now uses cutting-edge PKG Watch technology to transform how care is delivered for Parkinson’s patients across our community.
Helps people with Parkinson’s get more accurate, personalised care
Tracks key symptoms 24/7 to support smarter treatment decisions
Reduces unnecessary hospital appointments and improves quality of life
Funded entirely by Frimley Health Charity – made possible by you
The PKG Watch (Personal KinetiGraph) is a wearable device designed specifically for people with Parkinson’s disease. It looks like a regular wristwatch but provides something far more powerful, it tracks key symptoms like tremors, movement slowness (bradykinesia), and involuntary movements (dyskinesia) around the clock.
This continuous monitoring provides clinicians with a detailed, real-world view of how symptoms change throughout the day and between appointments. Rather than relying solely on short clinical visits or symptom diaries, the watch offers reliable, objective data that informs better care decisions.
The technology offers a host of benefits.
Personalised care
Clinicians can adjust medication and treatment to better match the patient’s actual needs
Remote monitoring
Some patients may avoid unnecessary hospital trips, as doctors can review their data between visits
Empowerment
Patients better understand their condition and feel more involved in managing it
Better outcomes
With clearer insight, care teams can act earlier and more precisely
We are committed to funding projects that go beyond what the NHS alone can provide, bringing innovative, meaningful change to patients and staff across our hospitals.
“This generous funding from Frimley Health Charity will transform how we manage Parkinson’s disease,” said Birinder Kullar, Neurology Service Manager. “The PKG Watch gives us insights into patients’ daily lives that we’ve never had access to before.”
“People with Parkinson’s experience a wide range of symptoms that can change throughout the day,” explained Dr Niccolini, Consultant Neurologist. “This device gives us real-time data and helps us make more accurate treatment decisions — without relying solely on diaries or multiple outpatient appointments. It also provides reassurance to patients, knowing their symptoms are being understood in greater detail.”
This project has been made possible by the generosity of Frimley Health Charity donors — people like you, who care about improving lives in our community. Your support helps fund innovation, drive excellence, and deliver care that truly puts patients first.
Thank you for making it happen.
