Yesterday, Frimley Health Charity celebrated the opening of the newly improved Neonatal Unit. The improved space delivers critical care to our tiniest patients and goes beyond merely clinical upgrades; it centres around comfort, compassion, and empathy during a challenging time for families. The improvements to the space are dedicated to emotional well-being in a place where physical well-being is often the primary focus.
Improvements include 12 new parents’ chairs and chair beds, a transformed family room with a kitchen area and a new sofa bed so families can feel more comfortable despite being in a hospital setting. The family room also houses uplifting artwork, which is especially beneficial to families who sometimes go days without seeing daylight.
In addition to the tangible upgrades, much effort has gone into considering the presentation of vital information. Posters have been designed to improve the professionalism and accessibility of communication so that families can feel empowered and supported throughout their time on the ward.
These upgrades, particularly to our communication, will help the unit achieve ‘Bliss Accreditation,’ which defines the UK standard for high-quality, family-centered neonatal care.
The improvements are largely due to the tireless work of staff members such as Grazia, the Neonatal Matron; Sam, the Neonatal Nurse; Sherbanu, Ward Clerk for the Neonatal Unit; and Emma Carr, the Frimley Health Charity Arts and Creative Health Manager.
Of course, immense gratitude is owed to the generosity of wonderful supporters, without whom this work wouldn’t have been possible.
