  • Running to help seriously ill children on Sunday 17 July 2016

Run Wexham is a 10k Trail Run and 2.8k Fun Trail Run which starts and finishes in the grounds of Wexham Park Hospital in Berkshire close to the South Bucks border. Though the hospital is close to Slough the race terrain is unbelievably rural and the run is across adjacent countryside and farmland between Wexham Park and Black Park / Rowley Lane. Parking is free and within the hospital grounds.

Every participant will get a finishing medal and fancy dress is strongly encouraged (particularly in the Fun Run). There will be prizes for some runners and a prize for the best fancy dress!

100% of the proceeds from Run Wexham will support your local hospital and our Children’s Critical Care Appeal. Your support will provide state-of-the-art equipment to help very ill children, many with complex problems, who need to stay in the hospital. The hospital is funding and building a new 5 bed Critical Care Unit for Children and with family accommodation. If you wish you may also choose to support one of our many other projects at your local hospital.

10 children with serious illnesses are admitted to your local hospital every week

We are enormously grateful to the Pinewood Hotel who have kindly sponsored the medals for this event

Is there an age limit to enter the event?

    10k trail run

Our event is run in accordance with the UK Athletics Rules, so runners competing must be aged 15 or over on the day of the run (Sunday 17 July 2016). There is no upper age limit.

    2.8k trail fun run

There are no age limits for participation in the 2.8k trail fun run but under 9s must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

How do I register a group or team?

We offer a special registration discount for teams of 4 or more for the 2.8k. This is for everyone from families to local running clubs, companies, schools or a circle of friends. The team registration price is just £4 per person for the 2.8k).

    What discounts are available?

You must create a team to receive the discounted registration fees.

10k trail run – If registering as part of a group of 4 or more we offer a discounted entry fee of £11.

2.8k trail fun run – If registering as part of a group of 4 or more we offer a discounted entry fee of £4 per person.

    What are my transport/parking options?

We encourage all participants and spectators to travel by public transport if possible, or to share a car.

Free parking is available in the hospital car park at Gate 4, Wexham Park Lane. The barriers should be open from 08.30am – 10am.   You will not have to pay for parking even if you have to get a ticket to enter the car park.

    Can I use a pushchair/wheelchair or a bike/roller skates/space rocket/other mode of transport, or bring a dog with me?

Due to the rough terrain on these trail runs and the number of participants in both events we cannot allow the use of any alternative mode of transport or for dogs to join runners on the routes. It is not safe for other participants, particularly at the start and finish line.

We apologise for any inconvenience these rules may cause.

    Is my registration transferable?

Yes. If you would like to transfer your registration to another person, you must contact us via fundraising@fhft.nhs.uk or call us on 01276 604642.  You cannot transfer a registration without telling us and must do so no later than Friday 1 July 2016.

Can I update my registration information?

If you move, change mobile number or would like to alter any of your registration information, please contact us via fundraising@fhft.nhs.uk or via 01276 604642

Do I have to bring my confirmation email/ticket to the event?

It would be helpful if you were to bring your confirmation email to event as bib numbers will be handed out on the day

    What is the refund policy?

All registrations are NOT refundable, other than in extenuating circumstances. Please contact the charity if you find yourself unable to attend due to reasons outside your control.

I don't run/I'm not sure if I can do the 10k, can I still take part?

Lots of people walk the 2.8k trail fun run but if you would like to start getting fit the 2.8k is a great early starting point.

You can be ready to complete the 10k with just 8 weeks training.  Many people do a mixture of walking and running for the 10k.

Running can be a hard slog to start with but if you build up your base fitness slowly and steadily, you will be surprised at how your outlook on exercise changes. Here are some useful resources to get you started:

NHS Couch to 5k – this website, podcast series and app is a great way to get yourself off the couch and running 5k in just 9 weeks.

Running Bug Training Plans and Tips – this popular runners website provides a wealth of tips and training plans to inspire you.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

No. Only the person whose details are registered to the bib number may run in the event with that bib number for the health and safety of participants. Please see the section above on transferring your registration.

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

You can contact the charity via fundraising@fhft.nhs.uk or via 01276 604642
